NOTES:

  • Initially, this Jewish community used the collective cemetery in Smarlingen, then the cemetery of the community in Neuschanz/Nieuwe in the Netherlands, until they were able to establish their own burial ground above in 1874.
  • The cemetery was vandalised in 1941. Restorations undertaken in 1956, 1970 and 1979. The Association of Jewish Communities in Lower Saxony acquired ownership in 1960. Care and maintenance is in the hands of a local market garden since 1975.
