HAREN (Ems) incorporating ALTHAREN: 49733 Lower Saxony (Niedersachsen) (Gerz, Peters).

DISTRICT: Emsland.

LOCATION OF CEMETERY: An der Tenge.

IN USE: From 1907/08 until 1942. Last recorded burial 1933.

NUMBER OF GRAVESTONES: 20, of which 6 date back to the 19th century.

DOCUMENTATION: Photographs, and copies of all gravestone inscriptions with translations by Groningen.

NOTES:

  • The Haren cemetery was recreated as a cemetery in 1957 and has been under the ownership of the Association of Jewish Communities in Lower Saxony since 1960. A memorial stone was dedicated in this cemetery in 1988.
  • An old cemetery in ALTHAREN was located south of Haren, in Wesuwer Brook. There are no records indicating when this cemetery was first used. It was closed in 1908 and six gravestones from this cemetery were relocated in the Haren cemetery above.
