Wikipedia.
50°44' N, 12°30' E, 40 miles S of Leipzig. Former seat south-western Free State of Saxony. Zwickau, an industrial and economical core, is the capital of Zwickau district. The city in a valley at the foot of the Erzgebirge mountains is part of the Saxon triangle metropolitan area that includes Leipzig-Halle and Dresden. With fewer than 100,000 inhabitants in the city, over 480,000 live in the greater metropolitan area. In the 14th century, a domestic hard-coal processing began. Silver ore deposits in the Erzgebirge, spurred Zwickau's development. [August 2012]
