Coat of arms of Güssing(Hungarian: Németújvár). This town in Burgenland located at 47°4′N 16°19′E with a population of 3,902 in 2001 is the administrative center of Güssing district. ORF Burgenland (local Austrian Broadcasting Corporation) reported that 17 Jewish gravestones from Güssing were found leaning by the wall of the Jewish cemetery in Graz and were returned to the town. Members of "Verein Schalom"* researched their origin and had the gravestones apparently removed from Güssing Jewish cemetery during the Nazi era returned to Güssing. Shalom Association,  that restores Jewish graves in Vienna, Lower Austria, and Burgenland, was founded in November 1991 by Walter and Carla Pagler (email: This email address is being protected from spambots.
