At one end of the Etang de Thau is the charming town of Sète, which developed in the 17th century as a major port on the Mediterranean Sea. This town of canals has beaches on the Mediterranean and connects the Etang to the sea. Many excellent fish restaurants line the quayside. [January 2008]
