Marranos came to Tarbes. Charles Achille in 1847 was chosen deputy for the town of Tarbes; he sat on the ministerial benches.The present community was formed in 1963. The Sefardic synagogue was "done up" in the ancient Maison-Foyer du Soldat de la Cité Rothschild.. The Jewry of Tarbes is mostly originally from North Africa.
